A contest for you, plus new project for SWTC finished

I finished my newest project for South West Trading, and while I can't show you the whole thing, I am going to show a closeup peek of the stitch pattern, just for Cathi, who is tempted to get some Karaoke (I say get it- I have used it thrice now and love it.)
Behold!

Edited to add: There is a picture of the whole purse up now at the SWTC blog.

Plus I am announcing a contest (my very first)!
At least where I live, summer has just now ended and it's time to pull out the cozy handknit socks. In honor of Socktoberfest (as Lauren is calling it) I have two lovely new balls of Fortissima Socka Disco (variegated denimy blues with silver sparkles) to send to one lucky blog reader. Just leave me a comment letting me know how much you love to knit socks and your email address. My charming daughter will pick the winner, and let me know if you'd also like 2 nearly complete but labelless balls of Opal too- I'll throw those in for the heck of it. Good luck!

Edited to add: Emma will randomly select the winner Tuesday 10/11 after school.

This should be interesting!

umm because it's another excuse to stash some yarn away! Its portable! You look like a pro if you are using dpns, magic loop, or two circs.

I have a thing for socks. Now I can choose what they look like! And I have popsicle toes in the winter.

hmm.. I havn't ever knitted a pair for me! But of the two pairs I have knit so far I have to say they are fun! And pretty quick!
And I love it when my son asks if I am knitting him a little sock! (he thinks since I knit him one pair that everything I knit now is a pair of socks for him!

Oh a contest, and I'm a sucker for these! I love knitting socks because I have a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old and very little time. Because socks are so portable I can take them with me to the playground. Aren't we all mutlitasking?? I also have big ugly feet, so the best thing to remedy that are good-looking hand-knit socks!!

Oh socks.. I started knitting them just this summer and I think the best part about knitting socks is instant satisfaction. With variegated yarns, it's exciting to see where the next stripe will show up, and what kind of patterns will emerge. With solids, I love lace socks. Short rows? Love them. Socks are the ultimate in-between projects kinda project. And one can never have too many pairs of socks.

Hi Amy,

Thank you for commenting on my blog. Any pointers with putting together my binder?

Yea! A contest! Hmmm...why do I like to knit socks? How about because I'm a glutton for punishment (I'm knitting a pair for my hubby right now, and he has REALLY big feet).

Contest?! Socks :) I am learning the short row heels right now. I have 3 pairs on the needles - all gifts for children I know. Easy to travel with and who doesn't love knitting in the round.

Because you can splurge on sock yarn and it doesn't cost you your mortgage payment! I love that they're small and portable, too :)

The purse is darling. I'm looking forward to carry another one of your designs, Keep 'em comin'!

Oh, how do I like socks? I like socks because they are unexpected to non-knitters. Non-knitters expect to see sweaters, shawls, hats - things that are in their face. Socks are way of really showing your knitting in an underground sort of way.

Holy cow! Why do I love socks? They're good for my short attention span, there's lots of yarn made just for socks, it impresses people when I tell them that's what I'm knitting...I could go on and on...

A fun contest! I love knitting socks for so many reasons. They are easy to take with me and knit anywhere, the yarns out there are so much fun, I can wear crazy sock colors that I would be too shy to wear in any other way, and I can send my sons out in the cold Minnesota weather knowing that they are kept warmer and just have to look at their feet to see how much their Mommy loves them.
I loved the pair of socks I made out of the Disco yarn and have been craving some more of that yarn since then. ;-) And who wouldn't also love extra Opal Yarn? You choose yummy sock yarn!

I have just started knitting socks by taking a class using 2 circular needles. I love the variety in stitches and the flexibility in patterns and yarns.

It makes me feel like a real knitter, making something really difficult. And I get to buy lots of neat stuff that doesnt' cost too much.

I love my Denise Interchangeable needles. I have yarn for 5 pairs of socks stashed. I am thrilled to be joining the ranks of sock knitters.

Doesn't everybody love to knit socks? Seriously, although I'm mostly a process knitter, I do like to be able to put my finished items to good use, and socks fit the bill. Plus, it makes me feel clever!

i adore making handknit socks, because they are a true luxury item that i can actually afford, and there's infinite variation in what you can make--a small way to express a lot of creativity!

A contest! Woopee! Why do I knit socks?

Knitting socks is one of my favorite items to knit. It's so neat the way the heel turns, individualizing the sock to the recipient's foot and then giving the socks. Socks are so fun and to have a pair of hand knit ones, YUMMMMMM!

Plus, the variety of patterns that you can make socks in and the portablility of them makes them the PERFECT on the go knitting projects.

Great contest! I have lots of reasons I like to knit socks but high up on the list is that I can buy one or two balls of a fabulous (and sometimes even expensive) yarn and have enough to knit a pair of socks.

I like knitting socks because they are quick and allow for plenty of variations. Sock yarns come in so many beautiful colours and you don't need to buy a lot to make a lovely pair of socks. But the main reason I like knitting socks is that handknitted socks are the most comfortable socks in the world and I like being able to give my friends and family a little luxury in their lives!

I love knitting socks because they are SO portable. I can stick them in my purse and pull them out in line at the bank...at the movies...anywhere! As long as my DPNs don't poke anybody where I'm standing, I can knit socks anywhere. :)

Great contest!

I love contests!. Hmmmm...how much do I love to knit socks? SO much that I knit them whenever possible...at how, in meetings, in class, in the car, waiting in line at the market, EVERYWHERE! I can't not knit socks. I have a pair with me wherever I go!

Oh yeah, and I love Opal yarn!

I began to knit socks after my grannie died last year. She had given me socks for 30 years and i felt it was time to do it on my own. So last october i finished my first pair and i was hooked! So nowdays i knit socks for the family and for my friends and their children.

Contest! Sock yarn! Love it!

I'm pretty new to knitting socks, but I enjoy it basically because it's the opposite of knitting baby blankets. Yarn Harlot said baby blankets are no fun because there are no "parade moments." But when you're knitting a sock, you're always near a "ta-dah!" moment. Especially when you do them toe up, I think!

Much love for knitting socks. Portable, quick, and, most importantly, they seem to fit. Can't say the same for the sweaters I've tried to knit!

Thank you so much for the shot- I do really like it, I'll have to see if any of my LYSes carry it.
